Who We Are
Kurt W. Billups, MA, MPC, LPC, LPHA CEO of New Patterns of Perception
I am the founder of New Patterns of Perception and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling and Communications from Texas A&M University System.
I began my career in 2005 at the Panhandle Assessment Center, working with children in crisis. My second rotation was at Family Support Services, where I was hired as Intake and Assessment Coordinator. For five years, I conducted assessments and initial diagnoses, provided therapy using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and taught Parenting, Co-Parenting, Anger Management, and BIPP classes. This work gave me a strong foundation in addressing common concerns such as anxiety, depression, and life changes.
Following this, I worked with two different Mental Health Authorities (MHMRs), where I gained extensive experience with more severe conditions, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and major depression. Over the past 20 years, I’ve gone on to treat patients across the spectrum—from situational stressors to complex mental health diagnoses—in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
My personal experiences with loss have deepened my empathy as a therapist, and I am committed to serving underserved populations, including the LGBTQ community and U.S. Veterans. At New Patterns of Perception, my mission is to provide a higher level of care and support for individuals and families, helping them navigate challenges and create lasting, positive change.
I’ve provided support for a wide range of concerns, including ADHD, anxiety and phobias, college and graduate school issues, depression, difficulties with self-esteem, eating issues, gender identity support, grief, loss, or bereavement, LGBTQ+ counseling and support, life transitions, medical and health concerns, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), pain management, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), professional and career issues, relationship difficulties, sexual abuse, stress management, and other issues
Welcome Letter from Kurt
Hello and welcome,
My name is Kurt W. Billups, MA, MPC, LPC, LPHA. I’m a cognitive-behavioral therapist with a deep commitment to helping people live more connected, meaningful, and emotionally balanced lives.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected—and that by identifying and reshaping unhelpful patterns, we can create real and lasting change. Therapy with me is active and collaborative. I provide both insight and practical tools to help you build self-awareness while developing strategies to navigate life’s challenges.
I specialize in working with adults and adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, and major life transitions. I also focus on supporting individuals with issues related to identity development, emotional regulation, relationship challenges, and personal growth.
My practice is inclusive and affirming. I work with people from diverse cultural, spiritual, and socioeconomic backgrounds. I am particularly attuned to the needs of LGBTQ+ individuals, U.S. Veterans, men facing emotional isolation, and those exploring questions of meaning, purpose, and belonging. If faith or spirituality is important to you, I can integrate these elements into the therapeutic process in a way that feels authentic and respectful.
Whether you’re seeking clarity, healing, or simply a place to be fully heard and seen, I offer a warm, grounded, and nonjudgmental space where we can work at your pace and in alignment with your goals.
Thank you for considering me as a part of your journey. I look forward to the opportunity to work together.
Warmly,
Rafael Padilla, Office Manager
